9 Most Popular Christmas Trees

When it comes to choosing the perfect Christmas tree, there are many factors to consider. Is it prone to drying out? Does it look good with ornaments? What about the sturdiness and appearance of its branches? To help you decide, we’ve made a list of the most popular Christmas trees in nature and what makes them special.

Fir, spruce, and pine evergreens are often chosen as Christmas trees because of their classic, full shape. Read on for the best types of Christmas tree varieties and find out why they’re part of holiday decorating traditions for many families.

9. Eastern White Pine Christmas Tree

The branches of white pines are softer and more flexible than other pines, so they’re often used in wreaths and garlands. However, this flexibility means that branches may not support heavier ornaments and décor. If you are looking for a tree with dense foliage and prefer minimal decorations, consider the Eastern White Pine.

8. Eastern Red Cedar Christmas Tree

This one is the South’s favorite tree. It has dark, shiny green needles, and its branches are light but compact. This tree has very aromatic yet prickly needles that form a pyramid-shaped crown. The Balsam Hill Grand Canyon Cedar® is an artificial Christmas tree inspired by this popular evergreen.

7. Norway Spruce Christmas Tree

The Norway Spruce is a beautiful tree with full, dense branches. However, it has a short shelf life and needs a lot of care and attention especially when its needles start to fall out. This tree species is a good option if you don’t plan on keeping your Christmas tree up for more than a week or two.

If you want a tree that lasts without ever having to worry about falling needles, then our BH Norway Spruce™ is exactly what you need.

6. Scotch Pine Christmas Tree

The Scotch Pine features vivid greens in complementary hues. It has resilient yet sharp needles, so be sure to wear thick gloves while decorating this tree. Its refreshing aroma will last the entire season, making it worth the effort.

Balsam Hill’s Scotch Pine Christmas tree features the same distinct tree profile and color detail, allowing you to enjoy its beauty for many seasons. Infuse your home with our Scents of the Season™ fragrance oils—it will feel just like you brought home a fresh-cut evergreen.

5. Douglas Fir Christmas Tree

The Douglas Fir features a naturally wide cone shape, so it won’t need much trimming to have a traditionally full profile. It’s a beautiful Christmas tree with soft, long-lasting, and fragrant needles. You can find this fir variant easily in tree lots across the country.

If you want this evergreen to grace your home for years to come, the Balsam Hill Durango Douglas Fir® Wide is a great alternative.

4. Colorado Blue Spruce Christmas Tree

With a beautiful conical shape, the Colorado Blue Spruce has strong limbs perfect for heavy ornaments. It’s also known for its unusual blue-hued foliage, which can appear silvery from certain angles.

Balsam Hill’s Classic Blue Spruce® tree brings you all the qualities you love with its lush silhouette and distinctive sturdy branches. Its two-toned needles with blue-green and silvery hues make it appear just like the real thing. If you want the look of a traditional Christmas tree at a great value, then this is the best Balsam Hill Christmas tree for you.

3. Balsam Fir Christmas Tree

The Balsam Fir is one of the most popular Christmas trees out there. It has an iconic pyramid shape with short and flat needles that keep well. It is also considered as one of the most fragrant Christmas trees, retaining its scent all season long. The tree’s rich dark green color creates the perfect backdrop for decorations. However, its branches are only able to hold light ornaments.

Our namesake tree, the BH Balsam Fir®, was modeled exactly like its real-life counterpart in tree farms. In addition, its branches are designed with even better strength to hold your favorite ornaments well.

2. Noble Fir Christmas Tree

The Noble Fir is one of America’s favorite Christmas tree species. Native to California, Oregon, and Washington, it’s well-loved for its symmetrical shape, robust branches, and high needle retention.

If you want to enjoy the beauty of this grand tree without the upkeep, then the BH Noble Fir® is the better choice. We perfectly matched the plump, grayish-green needles of the actual tree with added conveniences to make lighting and setup a breeze.

1. Fraser Fir Christmas Tree

Known for its ideal full shape, the Fraser fir is considered one of the most popular and best-selling Christmas trees in the US. Its silvery-green, inch-long needles that are soft to the touch make it a beautiful holiday tree. The branches are firm and capable of holding heavy ornaments, while the spaces between the branches make it easy to decorate.

We designed our version of this tree, the BH Fraser Fir®, to be as realistic as possible. In fact, it’s the most popular Balsam Hill tree since it’s also our most realistic one to date. It features 40 different branch tip variations and an organic treetop to replicate the look of farm-grown Fraser firs. Complete the experience by pairing this artificial tree with our Scents of the Season in Fraser Fir.

What type of artificial Christmas tree is best?

The best artificial Christmas trees are those that look and feel like the real thing. However, there are also other important things you must consider. Aside from appearance, you also have to look into how easy it is to set up and store.
