Ornament Cake Toppers

I always look forward to the cake at wedding receptions. It’s a reflection of the combined aesthetic and culinary tastes of the bride and groom, and I always love seeing what they decide on! For me, it’s the star of the reception. Nowadays, people are skipping over the traditional layered cake and opting for more original presentations. And with ornaments and ribbon and greenery galore, winter weddings are the perfect opportunity for dessert decor. Balsam Hill designs make whipping up one-of-a-kind cake toppers easier then saying “I do.”

Winter Wedding Cake Topper

Recreating the topper is simple. Encircle the sides with Balsam Hill’s Platinum Glitter Ribbon, then place a pair of his and her birds from the Woodland Ornament Set on top. Add a dash of greenery and your winter wedding cake is complete. Branches of spruce, mistletoe, or holly would all look lovely. There are so many beautiful plants that time of year!

Ornaments for a Winter Wedding

People always like to save cake toppers as special mementos from their special day. But after all the toasts have been said and the dancing has been done, there’s not much you can really do with them. Ornaments are the perfect solution! Every year you can hang the birds side by side to celebrate each new holiday season together.

Everyone of course always ooh’s and aah’s over the bridal cake, but the groom’s cake can be just as if not more visually stunning. It’s often a bit more understated and can be a great place for imagination. The wonderful thing about this DIY is that the cake itself can be super simple – the decorations do all the magic! The recipe we used calls for white icing, but how amazing would a deep dark chocolate look, playing off the the winter woodland theme?

    • Hi Kari,

Lovely indeed! The cake was surprisingly easy to pull off! The Platinum Glitter Ribbon by Balsam Hill is absolutely gorgeous. We placed parchment paper on the backside of the ribbon and wrapped the Italian Butter Cream Dream Cake! The rich color and quality of the ornaments really set it off!

Thanks for stopping in and we look forward to another holly jolly holiday season with you!

      Best Wishes,
