Ever since I was a little girl, we have been putting up our Christmas tree decorations early. My mom used to bring in a box or two of seasonal décor from the garage rafters starting in November, and I remember getting so excited.

My brother and sisters and I loved tearing into ornaments and trinkets from Christmas pasts. We were in awe of the warm glow given off by the holiday candles and the light-up porcelain Christmas village.  It set a whimsical, even magical mood that would lift our spirits for the cool season ahead.

The absolute best memory, though, was when we put up the tree. As a child, I remember eating Thanksgiving dinner with the glow of the Christmas tree coming from the family room. It didn’t mean that we skipped the Thanksgiving holiday because we had a tree up. Instead, along with, grateful hearts and full bellies, it gave the atmosphere that cozy feel I still remember to this day.

I am proud to say that having a tree up for Thanksgiving is a tradition I now carry on with my own family and our girls love it just as much as I did when I was their age. Our tradition may not be for everyone, but it is what’s right for us and I am so glad it’s ours!

When I was asked to be the Balsam Hill brand ambassador this year I was beyond honored. They have the absolute best, most realistic, and easy to assemble trees on the market. Seriously, take a look at these

For ours, we went with a few different types based on the size of the room and the feel I was going for. In the bedroom, I used the Frosted Alpine Balsam Fir. I love the daintiness, the whimsical, the Charlie Brown look—I love it all. It fits perfectly in this small nook between the fireplace and our comfy chair. Sitting here reading a book, listening to the crackle of our fireplace, and the kiddo’s laughing by its glow is priceless.

I recommend going with the Easy Plug™ with Clear LED Fairy Lights. They’re so worth it! Stringing lights was always a pain, from finding the plugs to trying not to bunch up the bulbs (don’t get me started on unraveling the knotted cord). Trust me, you’ll thank me the moment you insert the sections together and they immediately light up without the hassle. It’s just a luxury!

I wanted this tree in our master bedroom to be one that you’d dream up in a fairy tale, with whimsical light that’s bright and magical. Therefore, I kept the décor and embellishments minimal but striking in order to make a statement without having to use too many.

To create this look I chose to use two sets of the Midnight Frost and one set of Winter Wishes ornaments.  I love the way each ornament set ranges in color, giving you both muted and bold tones so your tree still looks full without sacrificing pops of color.

For the tree topper, I went with this magical double-sided mirrored star. One of the most unique things about this topper is that it has a long pole that you attach to the tree stem so that you can choose the placement of the star. It doesn’t have to sit at the absolute top of the tree, which is such a great feature. I love that it added a brilliant finishing touch to our Christmas tree!

Another one of my favorite trees is the European Fir. I love how the base is wide but the tree narrows down at the top. So the natural outdoor light can pass through but we still have the traditional wide breadth of a full-size tree. I adore this tree so much so that I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to photograph it in our newly built Tuff-Shed.

Only a tree this beautiful can make an unfinished space have such a warm glow about it! Don’t worry, it is inside now, stay tuned to find out where, but just look at this picture of my husband and our 10-month-old puppy, Reece. How magical is the scene, thanks to our fabulous tree!?

Every family has its own traditions and to me, those are the little things that I look back on and cherish the most.  Always remember to do what’s best for you and yours—they’re the ones you create your home for after all.

Happy decorating!
