Summer is all about spending time outdoors—enjoying the sights and smells, and taking advantage of the laidback season. As spring gives way to warmer days, spruce up your home with these summer decorating tips to extend and expand your living spaces.
Annuals like petunias and marigolds add life to any space with their vibrant colors. This year, I plan to decorate with plants and flowers that coordinate with my new pillows and cushions.
Take note of the light requirements of your plantings. If the planters have no access to direct sunlight, opt for impatiens or other plants that can flourish in full shade. Choose full-sun plantings for containers that are exposed to the sun for 4 to 6 hours.
Multicolored foliage lends texture and balance to the planter. Come up with your own combination of plants and use a stylish urn to showcase the arrangement with stately elegance. You can also add lanterns as accents.
Use a unique container for your summer blooms to impress neighbors and visitors with your resourcefulness. The yellow pair of boots above is an unusual but charming choice for a planter.
For a good night’s sleep during hot days, put your down duvets away and switch to lighter sheets. Beddings made of lighter fabric are best, so look for cotton or natural fiber coverings. Select elegant designs and sunny colors to brighten up the room.
Use Brightly Colored Pillows
My neutral linen sofa is currently adorned with chenille and faux fur pillows. I plan to replace the pillows with colorful ones to coordinate with my present interior. Nautical or beach-themed pillows add fun pops of color to living rooms and bedrooms.
Host a Backyard BBQ
What better way to welcome summer than with a backyard barbecue? With a party to prepare for, it will be more inspiring to get additional summer items and seasonal décor for your home that can double as everyday tableware. Another way is to host a late night cocktail party when it’s a lot cooler outside.
Illuminate the party by hanging string lights across the venue. Balsam Hill’s Globe Cafe Lights provides a good amount of light while creating a cheerful atmosphere for your surroundings.
Use fresh cut flowers from your own yard or a flower shop to bring the vibrant blooms and colors of summer onto the tables. If you have flowering plants, use them for your floral arrangements so that they’re in-sync with your al fresco areas.
Whether it’s your deck, porch, balcony, or entryway, these decorating tips allow you to celebrate summer and everything that it has to offer.
