With the changing leaves and the transforming landscape, fall is a season rich in colors. These colors should take center stage when it comes to decorating your home for fall. From muted greens and browns to vibrant reds and golden yellows, home décor in fall hues transform any space into a cozy setting. We turned to styling experts for their ideas on decorating with fall color palettes in different intensities—light, medium, and deep. Read on and be inspired with their fall decorating styles.
Light Fall Color Palette by Alina of Dress Your Décor
Create an inviting entrance for family and guests with an extraordinary autumn display. Inspired by the trend of doorscaping, Alina of Dress Your Décor styled her porch with a lush, fall arch and neutral-colored fall décor. She shares her step-by-step process to create this look:
- Cut PVC pipes to the length of your porch. Connect them with PVC pipe connectors.
- To stabilize the PVC arch, create a stand with smaller cut PVC pipes. Use zip ties to secure the PVC arch to your porch columns.
- Attach chicken wire with zip ties to the PVC pipes.
- Finally, attach the garlands with additional zip ties to the chicken wire.
- Fix and fluff the garlands until desired fullness is achieved.
Then, she chose a wreath from the same collection to adorn her door. To match the earth tones of her foliage, she added a set of Outdoor Heirloom Pumpkins for their muted colors, as well as Brass Fairy Light Lanterns. Lastly, she added stacks of white pumpkins and potted topiaries.
Medium Fall Color Palette
If you want something sweet and simple for fall, styling only with essential statement pieces is key. Shayla McCormick of Hammsmom decorated her porch with classic fall home décor in medium tones. For her door, she chose the Fall Berry Wreath which features berries in various shades of orange. Then, she lined the steps with gold and orange Outdoor Sunset Mums. These pot fillers can easily be placed in your favorite planters to match your home’s aesthetic. She complemented the hues of the foliage with the Outdoor Heirloom Pumpkins which come in a set of three—orange, muted green, and white. Lastly, she added a touch of Halloween with Solar Jack-o’-Lantern Pathway Lights to usher in trick-or-treaters to her home.
Shayla followed the same fall color scheme inside her home. She chose the same orange Fall Berry Wreath for the fireplace and a Golden Aspen Wreath for the dining room. Then, she grouped Glowing Glass Pumpkins to add a shimmery fall element to the kitchen. And finally, she added pops of color throughout the house with Tabletop Heirloom Pumpkins which come in varying shades of muted orange and green. They come in a set of five which makes them ideal for decorating several spaces.
Deep Fall Color Palette
Set up a charming backyard retreat for cozy fall evenings. Courtney of French Country Cottage styled her backyard barn porch with a rich and bold fall color theme. To create her doorscape, she layered two different fall garlands around the door. The Outdoor Sunburst Mums Foliage features sunflowers and mums while the Outdoor Autumn Traditions Foliage has pumpkins, pinecones, and orange berries. When combined, their colors and elements blend well to create a lush, organic fall display.
Courtney loves practical décor that will last long and can easily transition to other occasions. Here, she lined the porch steps with pumpkins in various sizes to achieve what she calls a “collected and garden-gathered look.” And the styling secret that she’s sharing? She chose sets of the Lit Stackable Jack-o’-Lanterns to take her décor from fall to Halloween.
Throughout fall, hide their grinning faces to use as your regular pumpkin décor. Decorate the porch, flank the steps, or line pathways with them. Then, for spooky season, simply turn them around and light them up for a wicked display. These pumpkins can stand alone or stack together for more impact. They operate on batteries, turn on automatically with their timers, and are controlled by a remote. These features make them safe and convenient to set up anywhere.
When decorating with fall colors, the most important thing is to have fun as you create cozy settings for your loved ones. We hope this post inspired you to set up inviting spaces throughout the harvest season and beyond.
