Farmhouse Christmas Decorating Theme by Courtney of French Country Cottage

Farmhouse Christmas style is characterized by the laidback charm of rustic elements. Textured fibers like jute or linen, natural accents like wood and pinecones, galvanized metal, and freshly picked greens are great farmhouse Christmas décor ideas. The ideal color palette for this theme is natural, with festive pops of red, white, and green.
Courtney of French Country Cottage was commissioned to style the Farmhouse at HammerSky Vineyards in Paso Robles, California. The charm and surroundings of this 100-year-old home served as her inspiration for building a farmhouse Christmas look for Balsam Hill.
To start, Courtney decorated the front entry with the Outdoor Festive Poinsettia Wreath and Garland. Then, she added a pair of red metal lanterns to match the door.

For the main Christmas tree, Courtney chose Balsam Hill’s Farmhouse Christmas Tree Ornament Sets. The base ornaments from this set are crafted from glass and feature red, blue, and green hues with glitter finish and plaid patterns. To bring rustic charm to her farmhouse Christmas tree, she added another layer of ornaments from the same collection. This time, it features an eclectic mix of miniature sleds and ice skates, vintage sleigh bells, and fabric reindeer for a cozy countryside look.
Courtney’s favorite decorating tip:
“When decorating, use what inspires you. Bring in some natural elements like branches and berries, include favorite heirloom ornaments or special pieces for nostalgia, and don’t be afraid to mix and mingle different looks in different rooms.”

For the rest of the farmhouse Christmas décor, Courtney opted for more natural elements like small sparse trees, evergreen branches, and lush garlands with berries. She completed the look with cozy and rustic touches like faux fur accents and metal Christmas signs.

Traditional Christmas Decorating Theme by Jennifer Lutz
Featured: White Berry Cypress Garlands | Photos courtesy of Jennifer Lutz and Rachel Cuthbert Photography
Traditional Christmas decorations include familiar, timeless accents that are associated with Christmases past. Trees and greenery adorned with glass heirloom ornaments, plaid ribbons, berries, and pinecones are examples of classic Christmas décor. Popular holiday symbols such as Santa, Nutcrackers, bells, reindeer, candy canes, and angels are considered traditional, too. The ideal color scheme for this style is red, green, and gold.
For this theme, Jennifer wanted something that looks timeless and pairs well with her recent kitchen and living room remodel. To start, she opted for classic greenery for her kitchen. She draped White Berry Cypress Garlands on the windows to bring cheer to the sink and prep area. Then, she added an undecorated wreath on the range hood. The simple and timeless style of these foliage pieces make it easier to transition to different seasons. They’re also ideal for use all year long.

Jennifer chose the Sanibel Spruce for her traditional Christmas tree. It is one of Balsam Hill’s most realistic trees with a sparse silhouette. It also has pre-fluffed branches which fan out on unboxing, giving her more time to do other things. She loves this tree particularly for its shape, color, and overall look. Plus, she finds it has plenty of room for a variety of her ornaments.
For this traditional Christmas decorating theme, she felt particularly inspired by Ralph Lauren and his mix of rich textures like plaids, leathers, and velvets. These are what she considers classic Christmas decorations that will last decades.
She used her favorite Mercury Glass Ornaments from Balsam Hill as her base. She refers to them as “beautifully crafted, substantial, and heirloom quality.” She uses these classic Christmas ornaments every year with a variety of different tree styles and décor. Then, she added in natural elements like pinecones, berries, feathers, and golden leaves. As a finishing touch, she added ribbons in different sizes with the variety of textures that she mentioned—plaid, leather, and velvet.
Jennifer’s favorite decorating tip:
“Find a few pieces that you love (ornaments, ribbon, greens) and then layer. Layer shapes, textures, and sizes. For this particular tree, I layered a plaid/leather 4-inch ribbon with a 1 ¼-inch velvet ribbon. Then, I added pheasant feathers, and a variety of glass ornaments in different sizes.”

As the place where everyone gathers, she made the dining room look extra special. She placed a pair of White Berry Cypress Swags on the French double doors. The red bow of this foliage gives it a classic Christmas look.
Next, she prepared a lovely backdrop for family meals using the same White Berry Cypress Garlands on her kitchen windows. She placed the garland along the length of the table and added LED wax pillar candles and votives of varying heights.

For her place settings, Jennifer used a classic color scheme of white, red, silver, and gold. To tie in with her centerpiece and classic Christmas tree décor, she tied a pheasant feather and leaves into each napkin with a red ribbon.

If you love soft, sheer, and metallic textures, then glam Christmas decorations are perfect for your space. Colors like silver, gold, champagne, and blush are essential to building a glam theme. Also, frosted or white Christmas trees are ideal to achieve this style.
Lexie’s home is all things feminine. The place is mostly white with pops of pink and gold, and these are what inspired this glam Christmas décor theme. She wanted her Christmas tree to look like an elegant, feminine wonderland and blend right in with her interiors.

For her glam Christmas tree, she chose Balsam Hill’s Denali White. She started with a bunch of Crystal and Pearl Tree Picks. Then, she added ornaments in varying sizes with hues such as ivory, blush, gold, and silver. Her favorite glamorous Christmas ornaments are from the Roaring Twenties Set which features classic shapes like ball, finial, and dangler. These ornaments are crafted from hand-blown glass and embellished with intricate beading and glitter detail, reminiscent of the ritzy Jazz Age.
Lexie’s favorite decorating tip:
“Begin with a theme, visualize how you want it to be, and then let your intuition guide you from there. Have the essentials, such as a few different styles of ribbon and picks that will complement each other to dress the tree. And most importantly, your ornaments. I love to have various sizes, large ones being my favorite because they really pop!”

To complete her glam Christmas tree decorations, she added the 5-inch Biltmore Gilded Ribbon in Ivory which features an argyle pattern in gold trim, accented with copper and white beads. She also weaved a light pink ribbon around the tree and tied bows on the branches.

Nordic or Scandinavian Christmas decorations take inspiration from the Danish word “hygge” which means warmth, comfort, and coziness. This decorating style is popular for its neutral color scheme as it focuses on natural elements like wood and greenery. However, Nordic Christmas décor is also known for festive and distinctive Scandinavian patterns. Pops of classic Christmas colors like red, green, silver, and gold are also ideal for this look.
After celebrating Christmas remotely for the last couple of years, Karan wanted to design something special for her grandkids. She chose the Nordic Christmas decorating theme to create a playful and whimsical look. She wanted her grandkids to feel the magic of Christmas with this holiday display and for them to always remember how it felt to come to grandma’s house.

For her tree, Karan chose an 8-foot BH Nordmann Fir. Its sparse and organic silhouette are quintessential features in a Scandinavian Christmas tree. Then, she went with the Nordic Frost Ornament Sets—a fun collection with red, white, and silver hues. The Base Ornament Set features classic balls, finials, and teardrops with intricate beading and glitter detail. In addition, the Novelty Ornament Set features jingle bells, glass balls, snow-filled cloches, miniature sleds, and adorable woodland animals. To complement the Nordic theme, she added a brown woven tree collar on the base of the tree. “The decorations are stunning and the Nordic theme that I went with layered beautifully to create a cohesive tree that looks magical and whimsical yet curated. It is all sure to delight both the young and old,” says Karan.

Karan’s favorite decorating tip:
“Layer, layer, layer! Build your tree from the inside out creating dimension. A favorite memory as a kid was laying under the tree and looking up through the branches. When you layer your tree from the inside out, you create depth and light giving the tree a magical feel. No matter where your eye falls, there is something there to draw you in.”

Winter Wonderland Decorating Theme by Ciera Hudson
Featured: Frosted Yukon Spruce® | Winter Wishes Base Ornaments, Set of 25 | Juliette Fringed Tree Skirt | Reel courtesy of Ciera Hudson
A winter wonderland decorating theme has two key elements—a flocked tree and decorations with a frosted effect. The usual colors used for this theme revolve around icy hues like silver, white, and blue. However, soft hues like blush, champagne, and mauve also work for this decorating style.
For this look, Ciera was inspired by the chilly surroundings where her family lives. “In the winter it gets pretty cold and snowy in Utah. I wanted a tree that represented the frosted snow out on the trees outside, with warm neutral tones to decorate with,” says Ciera.
Ciera loves flocked trees and chose a 7.5-foot Frosted Yukon Spruce with clear micro LED lights. Then, she chose the Winter Wishes Base Ornament Set which features blush, rose gold, mauve, and ivory hues. These glass ornaments have varying finishes that depict a wintry theme—sugared, glittered, and velveteen. To complete her winter wonderland décor, she added the Juliette Fringed Tree Skirt for a sparkly blanket of snow underneath the tree.
Ciera’s favorite decorating tip:
“Decorate with timeless pieces that make your heart happy! I don’t love trendy or cheap decorations that will break or that you might not care for the next Christmas season. Decorate with pieces that you will love year after year!”
