Headshot of Lauren Shaver of Bless'er House

Armed with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a 5-year background in teaching, Lauren is able to help guide others in the best ways to style their own homes through Bless’er House. Lauren started her blog in November 2013 to document their journey to personalizing their basic suburban home and giving it an eclectic cottage charm. Lauren is a thrift store and upcycling enthusiast who is always discovering new strategies to create a designer look for a fraction of the price.

For Mother’s Day, we invited Lauren to share a few things about her mother:

BlesserHouse Mom

Describe your mom in 3 words.

My mom is insightful, nurturing, and beautiful (inside and out).

Describe what your mom means to you in one sentence.

She is my absolute best friend- full of wisdom, a shoulder to cry on, easy to laugh with, and always there no matter what.

What’s your favorite activity to do with your mom?

It seems silly but just talking.  It’s so simple, I know, but I can’t talk to anyone the way I can open up to my mom.  Antique shopping maybe comes in at a close second.

What are you most grateful to your mother for?

She showed me how to love.  She’s been married to my dad for 32 years, and she’s shown me so much of what it means to be a good wife to my own husband by her example as I was growing up.  She taught me how to be a better mother to my own daughter by raising me with patience and compassion.  I owe so much of the love in my own household to her showing me how to play the roles she did in my own childhood.

What’s your favorite way to show your mom that you care?

Being a listener.  There are times she just needs to talk about what’s troubling her, and I like to be that person who is there for her, even if she doesn’t need me to say a word.

Are there small things your mom does for you that lets you know she cares?

She does little things like buying a small something that she knows is so “me”.  Or she’ll send me a quick e-mail in the middle of the day to let me know she’s thinking about me.  Since I have a two-year-old and I’m a stay-at-home-mom, she steps in to babysit fairly often on weekends. It really is the best thing ever to finally get some “me time” to enjoy a date night with my husband, knowing our little one is in good hands.
