The most memorable Christmas gifts in the world are the ones her children have made by hand, shares Jennifer Rizzo. As a designer who herself loves to craft signature pieces, she could not be prouder of her kids’ creations.

Jennifer Rizzo is a self-confessed holiday junkie. She loves the music, food, decor, and the feeling you can’t get the rest of the year. Add to this the fact that Jen is a talented designer. Christmas gives her the perfect opportunity to craft one-of-a-kind holiday home decor. The creative soul behind the eponymous Jennifer Rizzo Design Company shares her love for the holidays with Balsam Hill.

BH: What inspired you to start blogging?

Jen: I had three kids under the age of 5 at the time and I had a lot of ideas that I wanted to get out there. I had always wanted to write a decorating book. I am excited to say after 6 1/2 years of blogging, my book comes out next October!

BH: Do you have a signature ornament you use on your tree year after year?

Jen: I had boxes of Shiny-Brites I inherited from relatives and I love using those every year.

BH: What’s your favorite family holiday tradition?

Jen: We go to Christmas Eve service as a family. I love it because at the end of the service, the entire congregation gets up and sings ‘Silent Night’ around the manger. We go home and have a nice family dinner, and the kids can open one present each.

BH: What’s one of your fondest holiday memories?

Jen: Going to a big Polish family dinner on Christmas Eve at my aunt’s.

BH: When you decorate for the holidays, are there any guidelines you try to follow?

Jen: Nope! I just love to use what I have. I do like to make a lot of my own holiday home decor.

BH: What’s your favorite spot in the home to decorate for the holidays?

Jen: My living room. It makes it so pretty.

BH: Where do you go for holiday decorating inspiration?

Jen: I always get a feel in October for how I want to decorate for that year. Nature inspires me a lot. I love the eclectic feel of Anthropologie.

BH: Any gift-wrapping tips?

Jen: Make it easy! It’s all going to get ripped off in about two seconds!

BH: What is the most memorable Christmas gift you’ve ever received?

Jen: I love anything my kids have made by hand. Those are the things I remember the most. They are the ones you can’t find anywhere else

BH: What do you look forward to the most during the holiday season?

Jen: I love everything about it! The music, the food, the decorating, and the feeling you can’t get the rest of the year! I am a bit of a holiday junkie.
