Decorating with Dagmar: Red, White and Sparkle Christmas Tree

Christmas is just a few weeks away, and it’s time to get your home all dressed up for the holidays. It is often tough to decide on how to decorate, with so many color palettes and ornament styles to choose from. In this post, I am sharing with you one of my favorite themes – a classic color combination given modern flair with a bit of shimmer. I chose the Red, White and Sparkle Ornament Set for my tree this year because it had a timeless appeal that I loved, and does a great job of giving any space an elegant yet festive charm.

It’s exciting to start decorating for the Yuletide season, so I wanted to tackle my holiday centerpiece right away.

I personally have a methodical approach to Christmas tree decorating. Here, I’ve used tree picks to divide the tree into sections: top, middle, and bottom. You can further divide your tree sections into different quadrants, and decorate each with a balanced combination of items. Make sure that each part of the tree has a good assortment of décor, with no two similar ornaments or accents too close to each other.

The Snowy Branch and Velvet Plum Blossom picks I used here provide rich color that contrasts well against the lush foliage. Combining the two different picks result in a more dramatic effect than if I had just placed them separately. I added Glitter Jingle Bell picks later on for more sparkle, hanging these in such a way that they seemed like glittering silver ornaments among the branches. After making sure all the picks were in place, it was time to start decorating with the Red, White and Sparkle set.

One thing to keep in mind when using a collection that features an assortment of sizes and shapes is to use the larger pieces first. Bigger ornaments take up more room and tend to hang lower on branches, so placing them on the tree first allows you to properly space out your decor.

After I had positioned all my ornaments and picks, I realized that the tree needed accents that were more airy and delicate. Pairing the Silver Stretch Net ribbon with the Iced Glitter Twig picks provided a great solution. Their subtle shimmer and detail help create a more refined and graceful display. The Silver Jewel White Dupioni ribbon was the perfect foil for the red, white and silver hues, so I formed it into a traditional bow, making it an elegant and festive accessory that doesn’t take up too much space.

The finishing touch to my gorgeous tree was the tree topper. The Velvet Plum Blossom picks made another appearance, this time more like a bouquet for a rich touch of red to balance out the white and clear ornaments. I embellished this with another Glitter Jingle Bell pick for added height and sparkle, and adorned the whole topper with a collar made out of the Silver Stretch Net ribbon and loops of Red Velvet Glitter ribbon.

I also used different elements from my tree décor throughout the room, for continuity in the theme. The Snowy Branch and Velvet Plum Blossom picks lent lovely pops of color as they flanked my beautiful Colorado Mountain Spruce wreath, and the Iced Glitter Twigs provided added texture to the matching garland. The result is an overall look that is warm, welcoming, and festive, as fits the season of giving.
