White Lights or Multicolored? How Light Color Choices Affect Your Décor

It’s truly a sight to behold when your Christmas tree, ornaments and lights just naturally come together. It does take a bit of work to make it look great, but it’s definitely worth it in the end!

For now, let’s focus on your light color choices (still an ongoing decorating debate!) – White versus multicolored lights.

  1. White Lights: White lights are often viewed as elegant and sophisticated. They can be used in a single color palette, like white on white or gold on gold. Remember that metallic colors work especially well with white lights. As a neutral color, white lights can also serve as a backdrop for other, bolder colors. For example, strands of white Christmas lights can be complemented with single-color ornaments in red, gold, green or blue. A unique and fun color to try this year is pink!
  2. Multicolored Lights: Multicolored Christmas lights are seen as festive and magical. A good rule of thumb with a colorful palette like this would be stick to around three to four basic colors. Once you’ve chosen your color palette, you can mix and match your ornaments! Try combining pieces like stars, ribbons, beads and ball ornaments in different textures, sizes and shapes.

If you do decide to go full throttle, I won’t stop you! You can incorporate themes like Candyland, Toy Kingdom and Americana (or even Hello Kitty?). The point is to have fun and go with what makes you feel festive. Happy decorating!

Spooked by the Holidays? Divide and Conquer: Tackling Holiday Decorations One Room at a Time

Dealing with holiday decorations can seem pretty daunting at first. Don’t fret! The key to holiday decorating success is this: Divide and Conquer.  Tackle holiday decorations one room at a time and soon your home will undergo a beautiful transformation!

Here are some tips to help you start:

  1. Decide on a Theme: Decide on the overall theme that you want to use and how much you’re willing to spend for it. Each room should reflect your chosen theme. A good tip would be to select a specific color scheme and use that in the holiday decorations that go into each room.
  2. Designate a Focal Point: Determine which room should get the most elaborate decorations and designate it as the focal point.  If you designate the living room as the focal point of your home, place your favorite decorations and artificial Christmas tree there! After doing that, work your way outward. You won’t need to go all-out in the other rooms, just use decorative pieces that reflect the theme and color scheme you chose.
  3. Get Organized: This is the time you’ll need to get organized! After choosing items that should go to each room, put them into storage boxes or bags. Do try to use the boxes or bags sent by the manufacturer of the items. For example, Balsam Hill’s artificial Christmas trees come with their own storage bags, which are better to use since they’re made specifically to store those items. Label these according to which area they need to go to (like the living room, dining room or foyer).  It’ll be a cinch to decorate next time since you’ve already organized everything!

So, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and work your holiday magic, one room at a time. Happy decorating!

Planning Your Tree: From Choosing a Color Scheme to Picking Out Ornaments

Choosing a color scheme for your tree and picking out the ornaments to go with it is a fantastic way to make an impact during the holidays. As I’ve grown older, I’ve found that my tastes have changed and are still evolving!  It’s really fun to mix it up, either with nostalgic, classic pieces or with unique, contemporary designs.

Here are some ideas to help put your own twist on your artificial Christmas tree this year:

  1. Get Inspiration From the Season – Use seasonal colors inspired by Nature! Add a touch of elegance by using colors in jewel tones like ruby red, emerald green, sapphire blue, polished gold and sparkling silver (or even a combination of two or three colors!).
  2. Take a Walk Down Memory Lane – Remember how you used to celebrate Christmas when you were a kid? Use colors that bring feelings of nostalgia, like traditional red and green! This is also the perfect time to display any ornaments that you’ve inherited or received as gifts.
  3. Keep It In the Family – Make a strong impact by choosing a monochromatic color, like a tree in beautiful, classic white, a.k.a. white Christmas trees. This particular color scheme serves as a great backdrop for other colors. Add variety by using different variations of a single color throughout the room, like green, red or blue.

Remember, just choose whatever puts you in high spirits and makes you feel like the holidays are truly here. Happy decorating!

Will You Need an Extension Kit for Your Tree Topper? How to Tell

Although we look at Christmas trees as a whole, there’s just something different about a tree topper. A tree topper is, quite literally, the crowning glory of a Christmas tree. It adds just the right amount of festive warmth and completes the look of your Christmas tree, whether it be an extravagant angel or an intricate star.

However, tree toppers can sometimes be too heavy for your Christmas tree.  How will you know?  Here are some tell-tale signs:

  1. Your Christmas tree looks unbalanced and one half of it is tilted to the right or to the left.
  2. The top of your Christmas tree is leaning forward and the tree looks like it’s about to topple over.

Obviously, this won’t do! This is when you’ll need a tree topper extension kit. It’s a great item to have when you want to provide support for a tree topper. A tree topper extension kit helps you achieve the perfect look that you want for your Christmas tree.

Where can you get one? Well, you’re in the right place! We offer an exclusive Tree Topper Extension Kit on our Balsam Hill website. It comes with everything you need, like extra branch tips and lots of zip ties, to make your tree as beautiful as it can be. Remember, it works on both real and artificial Christmas trees!
