Balsam Hill Spreads Christmas Cheer: Insider Showcase with Brad & Courtney
How would you decorate a holiday wreath? The bloggers who were at Balsam Hill’s Insider Showcase would answer: among friends and family, in the midst of delicious food and wine, and surrounded by beautiful Christmas décor.
Now on its third year, our Balsam Hill Tree Lot once again welcomed blogger friends who were treated to a night of decorating. Last November 17, our brand ambassador, Courtney of French Country Cottage, hosted the event alongside acclaimed floral designer, Brad Schmidt.
Brad led the evening by decorating a pre-lit Balsam Hill Wreath in mixed metallics, a design theme that’s trending this year. First, he worked Battenberg lace and shimmering gold ribbons into the needles, then formed bows and layered the fabric to create wavy shapes all around. Brad also filled in the foliage with gold picks of gilded leaves and acanthus flowers.
He topped the wreath with gold and bronze mercury glass ornaments and pointed out how the metallic and glitter elements pick up on the wreath’s lights.
Brad finished decorating his wreath in 12 minutes and advised his guests to be spontaneous and to experiment during the process. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “One thing my mentor taught me [about designing] is to go for it and give your décor the personality it needs.”
Our guests took Brad’s advice with the hopes of winning a prize for their decorated wreaths. Balsam Hill provided wreaths, as well as picks, ornaments, and ribbons to use in this friendly competition.
This exclusive event welcomed 6 main participants: Cam Bowman of Growing up Goofy, Natasha Drisdelle of Fabulously Domestic, Anne Carey of Left Brain Craft Brain, Kimberly Kauer of Silicon Valley Mamas, Lauren Hochleutner of Pink on the Cheek and Nancy Gammon of Spiffy Kerms.
Anne Carey’s French country-themed wreath was the winning design of the evening. As the night went on, prizes were raffled off, and all our bloggers were able to take their decorated wreaths home.
Each year, we host events and showcase our beautiful Christmas trees, décor, and ornaments, for our shoppers to experience the realism of our products up close. If you happen to be in Burlingame, California, visit our Balsam Hill Tree Lot at 1561 Adrian Road.by
