Celebrate Mom, Celebrate Life:
Chelsea of Two Twenty One
Committed to her daytime work as an infant and toddler developmental therapist, Chelsea does her blog posts at night. On Two Twenty One, she shares her love for home improvement projects, furniture makeovers, crafts, recipes, and home and seasonal decor ideas.
Much of Chelsea’s creativity was developed in the 13 years she spent in 4-H when she was growing up in the small town of Michiana in Northwest Indiana. Her range of projects includes cake decorating, photography, food, tin punch, recycled articles, and flower arranging.
Chelsea and her husband Brad are expecting their first bundle of joy, whom they have nicknamed ‘Nugget’, around August 2014. In this interview with Balsam Hill, she remembers the little home fix-ups she learned from her own mom.
BH: How has your mother inspired your decorating style? Would you mind sharing some decorating advice she’s given you with us?
Chelsea: My mom isn’t much into decorating, but she’s really handy and fixed most things in our house when I was growing up. She can sew like no other, so she’s inspired me in that aspect. She’s taught me how to paint rooms, sew curtains, garden, and fix little things throughout my house.
BH: What advice has your mother given you that you would also like to give to your children?
Chelsea: Treat others as you want to be treated.
BH: Is there an activity you do now that still reminds you of something you did with your mother as a child?
Chelsea: Whenever I paint a room or plant flowers, I always think of my mom since she’s the one who taught me how to do these things when I was younger.
BH: Do you have any springtime traditions you would like to pass on to your children and grandchildren?
Chelsea: Planting flowers.
BH: How do you and your family prepare your home for spring? Is there a specific piece of decor you put out that signifies spring has arrived?
Chelsea: We prepare for spring by doing some spring cleaning. I typically plant flowers in our front porch planter when spring arrives.
BH: What’s your idea of a perfect Mother’s Day celebration?
Chelsea: Spending time with the special ladies in my life – that’s all I need. Cheesecake wouldn’t hurt.by
